I have been tossing around the idea of doing an Alice in Wonderland themed party for Felicity's 2nd birthday in May and I think it would totally go with the "wonderland" theme to have a bunch of thesewhimsical over-sized flowers in vases and maybe even sticking up out of the cake?
Whether I use theme for her party or not I will definitely be making some of these soon for fun - but I just couldn't wait, I was so excited about this I had to share it immediately!

Giveaway & Punch Fountain

A couple people sent me messages last week asking where the punch fountain from Felicity's Vintage Inspired Valentine's Party / Brunch came from - It was actually borrowed from my Mother-In-Law who bought it about 6 years ago from QVC. It is called a "Rival Beverage Fountain" it is all plastic and is awesome! It is lightweight, easy to set up and take down and clean- it lights up from the bottom and comes with a handle and 12 cups.
The only place I can find the exact same one is from Sams Club. It's listed on their website but can't be purchased online, you have to check your local store for pricing and availability.
But I went on Amazon and found this one that is really similiar and it's only $29 - click the pic to go to the listing.
I would highly recommend getting either of these if you're going to have any parties with little girls - the girls at our party went crazy over it and since everything is plastic you don't have to worry about them breaking any of the cups or ladle or anything.

Saturday Home Showcase - My Dinning Room Before & After

As I've said before my husband and I are working on doing a complete DIY remodel of pretty much our entire house. We bought our home last year - it was built in 1973 and pretty much nothing had been changed since then. Luckily my husband is pretty handy and we have been able to take on the task of remodeling the whole home, room by room on our own, with some help from other talented family members. It can be extremely stressful at times and there have been many times we have worried we bit off more than we could chew - like when my husband gutted the entire bathroom and then got a bit freaked out because he was afraid he wouldn't be able to put it back together. But so far we have managed to overcome all the obstacles we have encountered, though I'm sure there are many more ahead.
This week I want to share what we've done in our dinning room.
This is what it looked like when we purchased the house.

I knew we had to get a tiffany style light fixture - I love them - but it had to be a small one because the room is small and I didn't want the light fixture to be the focal point, instead I wanted my collection of dishes to be the focal point. I originally hung this rose ball from the light for Felicity's Vintage Inspired Valentine's Day Party, but afterward I decided I liked it and have kept it there. (I'll let you in on a secret.... The light fixture isn't centered with the room, but I think my husband and I are the only ones that notice that)
There is one red wall and all the rest are cream. The floors are a dark laminate wood, which is the only thing from the original room that we kept when we did the remodel.
The room is very small so it is challenging to get a good size table and the dishes displayed in there without feeling too cramped - we also have to walk through the dinning room to go from the living room to the kitchen so again, it had to be really open.
As I said I'm not totally done and the room will continue to evolve. I am looking for a shabby burlap banner that says something related to family or food that I can hang in the room - probably from the dish display hutch to the window. And the table and chairs in there now are not permanent. I want a shabby old table and 4 chairs that are all different. My Nanny and I spent a ton of time visiting antique stores trying to find the right pieces and couldn't so I just bought this table and chairs from Target to put in there until I find what I want.

Food Friday - Top 10 Baby Foods

Feeding my daughter nutritious foods has always been a really big deal to me. Felicity was willing to eat anything as a baby, some of her favs have been, avacado (this was the first food she ever ate), cabbage, spinach, steamed broccoli, salmon and all kinds of other things. Here is Felicity eating beeets when she was 7 months old.
Felicity actually loved avacado so much as a baby that the only way she would eat baby cereal was if it was mixed with avacado and fed to her out of the avacado shell. Here's a pic of her from the first time she ever tried to feed herself an avacado, which mostly ended up squashed all over her face!
Anyway, one of the things I found a while back that has helped direct me on what foods to feed Felicity is a list published by the BabyCenter.com Medical Advisory Board of the Top 10 Baby Foods. Here it is:

I can proudly report Felicity liked all of the foods from their list except oranges, she's not a big citrus fan. I would steam the foods then mash them up into mush when she was really little but by the time she was 9 months she could do chunks of food on her own as long as the were steamed really well. I have never had a fancy steamer. I just use a little metal steamer thing that sits inside of a pot - I got it from Wal Mart (think it cost about $8) and it has gotten a ton of use. We still use it almost everyday to steam her vegetables.

Anyway, I hope you find the BabyCenter.com's food list helpful - they are a great resource anytime you are researching anything to do with babies. Some other resources I've found helpful are AskDrSears.com and WhatToExpect.com - I also have found many wonderful books, I will have to dig around and find them all and will post the info on them later... most of them are boxed up or loaned out to other people right now.

I just got some new things hung on the walls that I thought I would share.
I got the purple flower picture last weekend at Big Lots and then I've had the old green frame on the far right for a long time but I just finally got my hubby to hang it when he hung the new picture. I used to hang things myself but finally had to come to terms with the fact I am completely incapable of hanging things level - I would always have to redo the nails about 4 or 5 times, leaving a bunch of holes in the walls so my husband finally banned me from hanging stuff!
A while back I ordered a set of 3 framed vintage chair prints from Pottery Barn - I got them because I loved them but at the time I had no idea where they would go. I finally decided to hang two of them on either side of our "Looney" frame....
.... and we hung the other above my shabby old chest of drawers on the other side of the living room.
You may recognize the sheet music banner hanging above the wall art - I actually made that for a decoration for Felicity's Valentine's Day Party but afterwards, I decided it would be pretty in the living room and I'm using it there until I find a pretty burlap banner to replace it.
I also had to share a picture of these gorgeous Valentine's Day flowers my brother-in-law sent to his 7 year old daughter - Red Roses with Peacock Feathers!
I picked them up from the flower shop and delivered them to her school since he was at work - I loved them so much I had to stop by my house and take a pic before taking them to her, it was hard to deliver them though because I really wanted to keep them for myself! He sent 7 red roses because she is 7 and she loves red roses and he had the feathers put in them because she loves feathers. She's going to keep the feathers out of the roses once they die and we are going to use them to make her a new hair bow.

Felicity's Vintage Inspired Valentine Party

Now, I am so excited to show you pictures from the Valentine Brunch that Felicity hosted this weekend for her cousins.
The brunch was a fun party for all of the girls and the best part is it only cost me around $25, because all the decorations were made from things I already had or borrowed so I only had to buy the food, and I got some really great deals on all of it.
We tried to stick with healthy foods for the menu so we did French Toast on whole grain bread and dark chocolate fondue with strawberries, grapes and bananas. The things hanging from lace on the display cabinet are the Valentine's Felicity and I made for each of her guest. We used pretty clear plastic plates on gold chargers with paper doillies and fancy paper cuts in-between the two plates and then put a scrapbooking chipboard letter with each girl's initial on top for seating labels (the seating labels were probably one of the things the little girls loved most - luckily it's easy to impress children with some of the simplest things). We also made a pretty little red rose ball to hang from the dinning room light.
We decorated the food table with a pink satin (it's not a table cloth, it's just satin bought by the yard) and then covered that with a pink throw-away party table cloth. The punch fountain was a big hit - we decorated the bottom of it with a pink feather boa and made a festive flower arrangement with different flowers I took out of arrangements in my bathroom, Felicity's room and my bedroom and tied some lace around the vase. and pinned a handmade paper decoration on one of the sticks coming out of the top of the arrangement.

I love my fiesta ware dishes because all the different colors can be used for different occassions like this. We put the serving pieces all on pretty white paper doillies.
My favorite part of the decorations were the pink tutus I put around the buttom of both cake stands. The girls thought it was really cute. They were also really excited that they got to drink from my real crystal glasses - they were so careful with them - one of my nieces asked me 3 times, "Are you sure it's okay for us to drink out of these?"

I normally have green curtains in my dinning room but for this occassion I brought in the red and lace curtains from my bedroom. I made the banner hanging on the curtain rod for a decoration for the brunch but I have more plans for it in my house in the future (more on that later).

When the party was pretty much over and all the kids were running around playing I caught Felicity sneaking back up on the table and eating the last of the grapes.

I have gotten pretty much everything cleaned up, now I just have to pack up and return the things that were borrowed (fondue pot and punch fountain).... I'm wore out, but all the little girls had a great time so it was worth it! Now I'm trying to decide what to do for her birthday party - I'm tossing around a couple of ideas but haven't decided for sure on anything yet.
