Bathroom Ideas

Woke up this morning to discover my left eye is swollen almost completely shut (I have pretty bad allergies in my eyes that flare up from time to time) - fun!  Anyway, We are in the process of remodeling our bathroom and it's pretty much done except for some details.  I've been working on decorating my bathroom and thought I'd share part of it (I will have full before and after pics up soon).

I like my mouthwash to be out and handy but hate looking at the bottles so I always keep my mouthwash in pretty glass containers.  I did have a candle on the pink candle holder but decided to put my facial cleanser on it instead and the painted glass bowl is a treasure I love that my Nanny gave me, I have it filled with cottonballs and q-tips.

I think having old mirrors all around the bathroom is really unique but I'm not so sure about the mirror above the window that is slants down over the toilet - I'm not sure a person would want to look up and see a mirror view of them doing their business... I still like the overall look though.  This came from Vintage Season



I also had to share this picture - I thought this was cute.... in case you haven't heard Oklahoma had earthquakes and tornadoes in the same day yesturday!

My Earthquake Damage Update:  Called the insurance company and we don't have earthquake insurance because we live in Oklahoma and ARE NOT supposed to have earthquakes.  Not sure where to go from here... I don't know if the crack is indicative of bigger issues like foundation damage or if it's simply a little cosmetic issue?

Earthquake Damage & Christmas Listings

If you read my post yesturday you know I experienced my first earthquake, which was very unexpected since I live in Oklahoma.  Today after the sun came up we went outside and found that in front of our house a couple feet from the door we now have a serious crack that goes from the window all the way down.

I have no idea if this is a big deal or not.  I'm going to call the insurance company today and see what they say about it.  We also have a smaller crack on the back of the house.

My First Earthquake

Last night I experienced my first EARTHQUAKE - which is crazy since I live in Oklahoma.  I was sitting in my chair working on my Etsy listings when the whole house started to shake, the light fixtures began to sway back and forth and my china cabinet began rattling loudly as a couple things fell off the walls.  My first thought was "The world is ending!", I ran and snatched up my daughter who had just woke from a sound sleep while my adrenaline was pumping and my heart was beating out of my chest.  After the shaking stopped I got on Facebook and learned we had just experienced a 5.6 earthquake.

 Shaken as I was I still couldn't help but wonder if "The Rapture" hadn't just occurred and I had been left behind, so I quickly checked the pages of some ministers and hard core Christians and saw they were updating their status so I figured the second coming hadn't happened, unless there is a way to update your facebook status from heaven.

Anyway we made it through with no interior damage and now that the sun is up we're about to go outside and check the outside of the house for cracks in the brick.  End of story is, next Sunday, this Christian family (that hasn't been to church in almost 2 years) will be taking up our old place in the church pew again.

Pottery Barn Design Studio

I was doing some shopping on Pottery Barn's website last night - I ended up purchasing this wall art set that was on sale:

 While on their site I discovered they have an awesome "Design Studio" that offers ideas, inspiration and advice for decorating your home.  I spent quite a bit of time exploring their entertaining ideas, and inspiration pictures of different rooms and reading interior design articles such as "How to decorate a small living room".  You can find ideas for theme parties complete with tablescapes, recipes, music and more.  I also really enjoyed the section on "Finding Your Style" 

I have determined my style is a mix of Mediterranean...

I am very anxious for my pictures to come in so I can finish my living room - We have been in our house for almost a year now and things are finally starting to feel complete as far as the way everything looks - will post before and after pics soon.

Fabric Scrap Tutu

I love making no-sew tutus with tulle, but never thought about making them with fabric until I saw this adorable fabric scrap tutu tutorial: AdelynStone Blog 

I will deffinitely be making one of these for my little Felicity with a bunch of the fabric scraps I have accumulated.

Thinking about Christmas Wreaths

This will be our first Christmas in our home so I'm so excited to decorate my little house with garland, christmas ornaments, bells, wreaths and more!  I've been doing some online research to get ideas for a wreath to make for my front door and have found some unique things that have given me inspiration and I thought I would share some of these pieces....

This is a very "different" kind of wreath that could be made in a Christmas theme.  Could do all Christmas colors with a banner that says something Christmasy (is that a word?) - You can find the tutorial on how to make this here: http://www.aglimpseinsideblog.com/2011/07/summer-frame-wreath-tutorial.html

I also really like the idea of incorporating our last name initial into a wreath on our front door like is done in this simple wreath - tutorial found here: http://www.huckleberrygumbo.blogspot.com/  For Christmas I would deffinitely want to make this a bit more glitsy though, maybe I could use some shimmery bright red fabric for the flowers?

I'm still not sure exactly what I'm going to make but whatever i do I will most certainly have to incorporate feathers into it since I'm all into the feather thing at the moment - love this feather wreath from http://www.westelm.com/

also had to share this gorgeous Halloween wreath I came across while searching the internet today.  So wish I would I have had this on my door in October - the site said the wreath came from an Etsy store, but unfortunately it didn't give the name of the Shop =(

Halloween

This year I made my first Halloween costume.  It's not a great masterpiece but I didn't have a lot of time - this costume was simple and pretty easy to make, but was absolutely adorable! 

The skirt is a simple no-sew tutu and the shirt is a onesie purchased from Hobby Lobby with an iron-on tie also purchased from Hobby Lobby.  The wig was found at a Halloween store for just $4.99 and she already had the shoes and the leggings.

It didn't take Felicity long to figure out what the whole trick-or-treating thing was about.   She was great and wore her wig the entire time, even when she finally fell asleep.  I'm already thinking of ideas for next year - I'm leaning toward doing something like a "Peacock Princess".... we'll see.
