4 Ingredient Baked Dutch Babies

My Nanny used to make me the most wonderful thing for breakfast, called "Dutch Babies".

I've never seen anyone else cook them, although I have found online that the recipe is well known and that some people refer to them as "German Pancakes".
Now as an adult this is still one of my favorite things to eat (because it's yummy)....
and one of my favorite things to cook (because it's super simple).

I love that my Nanny wrote this recipe out for me because everytime I make these I get to pull the card out of my recipe box and lay it out on the counter while I'm cooking and it's like she's there with me in the kitchen!

- Put 1/3 Cup of butter into your baking dish and stick in the oven at 450 degrees to melt while your mix the other ingredients.

Beat 5 Eggs for one minute.

Then add 1 Cup of Milk and 1 Cup of Flour (I always use wholegrain) and mix that in well.

*The recipe doesn't call for it, but if I think about it I usually add a bit of Vanilla Extract too.

Pour this in the pan on top of your melted butter and bake for 20 Minutes.

The fun part as a kid was always watching it bake.....

Here's what it looks like after 5 minutes:

and here it is after about 15 minutes:

When you take it out of the oven it usually shrinks down a bit as it cools.

Serve it with a bit of syrup and powdered sugar and it's absolutely delicious!

Also wanted to let everyone know we're getting all the Fall / Halloween stuff restocked in the shop

The Orange and Black Funky Halloween Headband is back:

  2. Many years ago I worked in a breakfast restaurant and we called these German pancakes. Our menu served them with cinnamon apples inside. I'm glad to have the recipe. Thanks, Gail (BibleLoveNotes.com)

  4. Love Dutch babies. Only we bake ours in cast iron skillets -- a big one which can be shared or smaller ones that so everyone can have their own! Love ours with a squeeze of lemon and powdered sugar! And butter, of course, butter!

  11. I made this for the first time "YESTERDAY"! Then I spotted your post. SO FUNNY! I READ that the BEST FLOUR to RAISE SKY HIGH with is bread flour(so I bought it special for the occasion)...It also said to use a cast iron skillet...Which I did! WOW was it delicious. My Recipe called for 6 eggs and told me to use a 10inch cast iron skillet. I discovered after having the batter ALL READY my skillet was 8inches...Hmmmmm! OKAY I used it anyway and WOW,WOW,WOW. It was a HUGE HIT! I made sure my GUYS were sitting there when it came out "SO I could impress them with the SIZE OF IT"! My recipe had vanilla and cinnamon listed. I used vanilla and nutmeg. I also served it with sliced banana and fruit cup on the side. "SOOOO YUMMMMY"! it will be a favorite in our house!
How LUCKY YOU ARE to have your Grandma recipe. That is PRICELESS!!!
    Hugs to you,Donna
