4th of July Wreath & Newborn Kittens

I've been working on 4th of July hair bows, which has resulted in red, white & blue ribbon scraps all over the place, so I decided to gather some up and make a quick, simple 4th of July wreath.

I had this wreath below leftover from Spring....

I took out all the "Springy" stuff (leaving just the greenery on it) and got some of this red mesh that had been stuffed in the closet since I took it off the Valentine's Day Tree....

Then we wrapped the red mesh around the wreath, securing it in a couple place with wire,

then I stuffed in a few red flowers.

Last, I topped it off with a simple red, white & blue bow and a little $1 flag from the dollar store.

When I hung it on the door, Felicity exclaimed, "Oh Momma, that's beautiful.... I'm sooooo proud of you!"

As I said, we've also been working on 4th of July hair bows, lots and lots of bows.....

But our biggest news around the house this week is this.....

Our Momma cat went into labor last night, it is her first litter, and she really didn't know what to do.  She actually tried to give birth in my lap!  Finally I managed to get her off my lap and she ended up having them in our bedroom, just right out in the open, which of course, is unusual for cats.

We have 3 bob tails and 2 with tails - Felicity is in love with all of them.  

All of the cats except one already have homes waiting for them when they are weaned..... I don't know what Felicity will do when she realizes they are leaving.  We might let her keep one to make giving the others up easier.

I just got this photo of Felicity and I uploaded and edited, it was taken last month and I love it because with me being the one taking the photos, there's rarely ever a decent photo of the two of us together.

Magnolia Festival

So good to get back to my blog!  I wasn't away by choice, just extremely overwhelmed and busy and had no extra time whatsoever.  But now orders are caught up and things are starting to get back into a manageable groove... yay!

We are growing a garden this year for the first time and I will share pictures soon, as well as pics of Felicity's birthday party and I have all kinds of projects on deck to do and share soon too, so check back regularly.

Last weekend I was a vendor at the Magnolia Festival in Durant, OK.

If you come by my house while I'm gone to a show you'll find there are no curtains hanging in the windows, no living room rug, now dinning room birdcage or table clothes, no shelves in Felicity's room and no drawers in the desk!

I just decided today to paint the wood inside this frame with chalkboard paint, then I can write the price of each bow in chalk directly above it at the next show.

The display above was a last minute put together thing.  I bought a plain wooden used frame from someone the day before the show and Felicity and I painted it and made this clip display with it.

New Retailer & Painted Cement Floors

Check out this super cute shabby painted cement floor in my newest retailer's boutique, "The Tortoise & The Hair" in Ozark, Alabama.

First let me show you the rest of the super cute place and then I'll get back to the painted cement floor thing.

The shop is an adorable children's boutique in the front, with a cute kid's spa in the back!  

Isn't that the cutest idea?

They also have some really cute shabby painted furniture display pieces.  

Check out these little girl pedicure stations!  Felicity was pretty fascinated by them.

and there's the sweetest little area for doing hair cuts....... 

I also love the cute paint job on the back wall..... so adorable.

Oh, and here is Felicity having a bit of a meltdown on their cute cement floor, because you see, when your sales assistant is a temperamental two year old this is the kind of stuff you put up with during your work day. 

 I love their painted cement so much that now I want to do it so bad myself.

We are planning to build a house in the next few years and now I'm thinking I need painted concrete floors throughout the whole thing!

 Of course, I will have to talk my husband into it.  That might not be easy.

I have found a lot of floors that are super shinny and sleek painted, but I don't care for that.   I prefer the more shabby look myself...

plus that way if the paint ever starts to chip or something, it will look like it's intentional  =)

Easy Candied Pecans

Our trees gifted us with a generous amount of Pecans this year.  It was so exciting going out every morning and gathering them up, but shelling them was not fun at all.

I knew Felicity and I would need snacks on our road trip, but I didn't want to spend a lot of money on junk so before we left we made a bunch of simple candied pecans to take on the road.

This is so quick, easy and fun to do I had to share....

Here's what you need:

3 Cups of Sugar 

1 Cup of Water

1/2 teaspoon Cream of Tarter

Pecans (I think I used a little under a pound)

First stir sugar, cream of tarter & water over low/medium heat until sugar dissolves.

Then turn up the heat, stop stirring, and let the mixture boil until the clear syrup turns gold.

Once it turns gold immediately remove it from the heat and mix in the pecans.

Then pour them out onto a lined baking sheet sprayed with a bit of oil.

Once they harden break then apart and eat!

.... and we have another new Alabama retailer in Ozark, AL.  I will have a full tour of the boutique later this week.  I don't have all the photos edited yet, but here's one of my little sales assistant having a bit of a melt-down on their cute painted cement floor!

Valentine Tree, Road Trip (Part Three) & A Giveaway

The day Felicity and I were supposed to leave on our road trip there was a winter storm that moved through our traveling path so we had to stay home an extra day.  We decided to spend the day transforming our Christmas Tree (that we still hadn't taken down), into a Valentine Tree.

The only thing we had to buy was a $1 package of paper doilies.  All the other decorations we made from things around the house.

For garland we used scraps of lace and ribbon and then cut up strips of fabric to go with the leftover red mesh we used at Christmas.

We made a few other garlands with sheet music and twine.  I'm definitely going to find lots of uses for those, even after we take down the tree.

We also hung some paper medallions that I had made last year for decorations at Felicity's Valentine Party.  I clipped on a few of Felicity's pink, red and white satin flower hair clips as well.    

wE raided my jewelry box and draped a couple pink necklaces and a pearl necklace along the branches,  then we hung a few pretty brooches on, as well as a couple of heart shaped pendants that I took off some necklaces.

I couldn't figure out what to use for the tree topper and then finally decided to pull out some dyed coffee filter flowers I made last year for Felicity's Easter Party and attached them to the top of the tree.

We like the tree so much that I think we will make this a tradition every year.  It's so much work getting the tree down out of the attic and setting it up every year, that I think we might as well find a way to enjoy it for more than one month   =)

{ ROAD TRIP - PART THREE }

Felicity and I are still enjoying traveling around Alabama.  

Although I still have not figured out exactly what "Roll Tide" means, I know it has to do with football here, but still don't understand what it actually MEANS..... 

People here certainly take the phrase seriously though, I actually saw it mowed into someone's yard yesterday - and it's not even football season!

We visited this cute children's store called "Kids Korner" in Enterprise, Alabama and are delighted that they're going to be carrying part of my line now!  

Enterprise has a really cute old downtown with this brick road and old fountain at the center of it.  I just LOVE it!

While we were on the road we came across this cotton field, it was so pretty, just a field of cotton nearly as far as you could see.

I tried to get Felicity to take a picture by and get down to touch it, but she was grossed out by it and said:

"Yuck Mom, it's Old!"
