Bargain Home Finds & A Bold Cat

I went to do some thrift store / bargain shopping last weekend and found some awesome deals I was really excited about and thought I would share.

I found this desk at a consignment store for $70 and loved it. It's going against an empty wall in my dinning room and will be made into a little command center for my business right now until we can do something else. My business paperwork and everything was managed out of our extra bedroom but my inventory is now taking up the majority of the room leaving no room to work - it's more of a miniature warehouse now than an office.

I'm going to replace the current knobs with crystal knobs. I am really curious when this was made? It has kind of a 70's feel to me, but I don't know so if anyone has any idea I would love to know what you think.

I like to know my stuff. This way when someone says, "Cool Desk".... I can say "Oh yes, that's a blah blah blah, it was made in yada yada yada"

I got these fake pears from Wall's for $2 and they look much prettier in person than this picture - poor Felicity thinks they are real and keeps climbing up on the table and trying to bite into them.

I got all of these vases and candle stick holders at the Goodwill Store for 75 cents each. I searched all over the shelves to find them all here and there.

On a different note, I had to share this picture of Felicity kissing this cat. This is so funny because...

1) This is not a house cat and that is not it's bed - that's our dog Zoey's bed

2) This is NOT even OUR CAT - it's the neighbor's cat. My husband was working in the garage and left the door open to the kitchen and this cat just pranced in and made himself at home!

Felicity ran in the room and was so happy and surprised to see the cat that she ran over there and gave him a kiss.... our dog Zoey on the other hand, was not so happy.

As I've said before my husband and I are working on doing a complete DIY remodel of pretty much our entire house. We bought our home last year - it was built in 1973 and pretty much nothing had been changed since then. Luckily my husband is pretty handy and we have been able to take on the task of remodeling the whole home, room by room on our own, with some help from other talented family members. It can be extremely stressful at times and there have been many times we have worried we bit off more than we could chew - like when my husband gutted the entire bathroom and then got a bit freaked out because he was afraid he wouldn't be able to put it back together. But so far we have managed to overcome all the obstacles we have encountered, though I'm sure there are many more ahead.

This week I want to share what we've done in our dinning room.

This is what it looked like when we purchased the house.

It's not done yet but here is what it looks like now:

My husband took out the original sheetrock and redid it all, replaced the windows, replaced the light fixture, replaced all the baseboards and put up beautiful crown molding (which we got at 50% off from Lowes because there was about 1 inch on each end that was slightly damaged, he simply cut off the messed up part). We also replaced the window. The ceiling is one of those old "popcorn" ceilings and we were going to remove it then we thought about all the mess it would make and decided, "Ugh, it's not all that bad, we'll just keep it" - we just hope nobody looks up. One day we might replace it.

I knew we had to get a tiffany style light fixture - I love them - but it had to be a small one because the room is small and I didn't want the light fixture to be the focal point, instead I wanted my collection of dishes to be the focal point. I originally hung this rose ball from the light for Felicity's Vintage Inspired Valentine's Day Party, but afterward I decided I liked it and have kept it there. (I'll let you in on a secret.... The light fixture isn't centered with the room, but I think my husband and I are the only ones that notice that)

There is one red wall and all the rest are cream. The floors are a dark laminate wood, which is the only thing from the original room that we kept when we did the remodel.

The room is very small so it is challenging to get a good size table and the dishes displayed in there without feeling too cramped - we also have to walk through the dinning room to go from the living room to the kitchen so again, it had to be really open.

As I said I'm not totally done and the room will continue to evolve. I am looking for a shabby burlap banner that says something related to family or food that I can hang in the room - probably from the dish display hutch to the window. And the table and chairs in there now are not permanent. I want a shabby old table and 4 chairs that are all different. My Nanny and I spent a ton of time visiting antique stores trying to find the right pieces and couldn't so I just bought this table and chairs from Target to put in there until I find what I want.

I just got some new things hung on the walls that I thought I would share.

I got the purple flower picture last weekend at Big Lots and then I've had the old green frame on the far right for a long time but I just finally got my hubby to hang it when he hung the new picture. I used to hang things myself but finally had to come to terms with the fact I am completely incapable of hanging things level - I would always have to redo the nails about 4 or 5 times, leaving a bunch of holes in the walls so my husband finally banned me from hanging stuff!

A while back I ordered a set of 3 framed vintage chair prints from Pottery Barn - I got them because I loved them but at the time I had no idea where they would go. I finally decided to hang two of them on either side of our "Looney" frame....

.... and we hung the other above my shabby old chest of drawers on the other side of the living room.

You may recognize the sheet music banner hanging above the wall art - I actually made that for a decoration for Felicity's Valentine's Day Party but afterwards, I decided it would be pretty in the living room and I'm using it there until I find a pretty burlap banner to replace it.

I also had to share a picture of these gorgeous Valentine's Day flowers my brother-in-law sent to his 7 year old daughter - Red Roses with Peacock Feathers!

I picked them up from the flower shop and delivered them to her school since he was at work - I loved them so much I had to stop by my house and take a pic before taking them to her, it was hard to deliver them though because I really wanted to keep them for myself! He sent 7 red roses because she is 7 and she loves red roses and he had the feathers put in them because she loves feathers. She's going to keep the feathers out of the roses once they die and we are going to use them to make her a new hair bow.

DIY Fabric Wall Art

Today I wanted to share one of my most recent little decorating projects. I have been wanting to add some more color into the little wall space between my living room window and door. Well, I was at Hobby Lobby and saw some beautiful fabric on sale that I knew would look perfect in the room so I bought it and made this super simple DIY Wall Art.

I put the the fabric into embroidery hoops purchased from Donna Dream Catchers & Vintage Goods on Etsy and then hung the hoops on the wall and it looks wonderful. What I love is that whenever I get tired of these fabrics I can change it out with a new fabric or a seasonal print and get all new wall art for very little expense.

Cost of the project: I paid $8 for the hoops and around $10 for the fabric so the total was only $18.

Also had to share a few pictures of a couple of our newest little models showing off some new stuff on our site....

Dollar Store Home Decor Find!

I am all about bargain shopping so when I found this beautiful clock at my local "Dollar General" for $20 I was pretty excited and had to show it off. Here it is in my living room:

The picture frame is an unfunished wood frame I got at walmart, painted white, then sanded to give it a shabby look and then used Mod Podge to seal some fabric onto it. The 2 bottles actually came from a 6-pack of beer my husband had!

My Mom got the same $20 clock from the dollar store that I did and she put it in her dinning room and it looks great..

My New Peacock

I love peacocks and I couldn't resist this peacock when I saw it at Hobby Lobby last week, it was under $6 with the 40% off coupon I printed off their website. I put it on my gorgeous birdcage and then threw some pinecones from my neighbors house inside it for now. Next month I'll probably put Christmas ornaments in it, and then maybe some balls covered in moss during the spring.
