Felicity's Closet Makeover

Since my baby is no longer a baby, but instead a full-fledged toddler I recently decided we needed to make her closet more appropriate for the active, playful, girly-girl she is!

I cannot stand children's rooms that are made up to look all magazine picture perfect.  I think a child's room should be a fun open place where they have easy access to their toys and can play, flex their imagination and make a mess!

Her bedroom walls are white - I painted the closet pink quite a while ago and left the doors off.  To be honest this pink is a bit brighter than what I wanted but I already had this paint leftover from some display things my husband made for my business and being the frugal tightwad I am, I couldn't justify buying a new pink when I already had this can....

For convenience I always keep 2 boxes in the top of her closet for clothes she has outgrown - one for things to keep and one to donate.  I wish I could say I nicely fold them and pull the boxes down and place the clothes neatly in it, but I don't - I usually just toss them up there to the right basket and deal with the jumbled up mess when the box is full.

Her closet rod was so ugly and I was going to primer and paint it but then I remembered I had this "Peel 'N Stick" fabric leftover from another project so I covered her rod in it.

The big thing on the left hand side of her closet was a diaper holder that hung on her crib (my talented Meme & Aunt Janna made her a beautiful bedding set when she was born) but it's now used as a hamper for her dirty clothes.

The leopard and pink pocket thing hanging from the rod was also from her bedding set and now we hang it in the closet and use it for organizing toiletries and little things I don't want her messing with.

She likes to dress up in her tutus all the time so I started hanging them low where she could get them on her own, as well as her wigs and play jewelry in the pink basket.

I moved her bow holder low where she can get to them and pick out her own.

The more fragile hair pieces and jewelry get hung on  this dress form on the shelf.

The denim pocket banner will be for putting crayons and pencils in when we get to the point that I feel like I can trust her not to create artwork on the wall.  I showed how to make this in This Post.

Unfortunately, painting isn't really my thing.... and I messed up in several places:

Why did I not think to take the shelves out before I painted!?!

But even though her closet isn't perfect, Felicity loves playing in it....

and she usually gets me all dressed up to play too, which I enjoy - the best part of having a daughter is getting to be a little girl all over again!

Last, I had to share this video my cousin sent me with some clips of her 10 year old son .  He's got some moves like Jordan and he's a really good kid too!

I'm linking this post up at some great blogs.  Click Here to see who they are and go visit them!

    1. I got that at Wal Mart almost 5 years ago - when I saw it I loved it so a bought a bunch and it has lasted me all this time. I haven't seen it there since. I haven't looked at Hobby Lobby or another craft store, but I bet they have it.

    1. You're welcome - he's so cute. I will have to come watch him sometime, although it might not be very easy with Felicity. I have a feeling she would want to run out on the court and get the "Ball Ball"

  22. Finding the most suitable closet organizing strategy for you and your lifestyle helps you save time and energy when getting ready for work or event. Items of clothing will be lost or misplaced if you do not have a system that you follow when you put and pick out your clothes from the closet.
